Chocolate Hills in Bohol
When traveling to the Philippines, one may be awed at the number of tourist spots the country is proud of. One of its finest tourist spots is the province of Bohol. Bohol is located in the Central Visayas Region. It is the 10th largest island in the country. This oval-shaped island is surrounded by 73 other smaller islands. It is blessed to have a mild weather all year round and is rarely affected by typhoons.
Several major tourist attractions can be found in this province. Of those tourist destinations, the most popular would probably be the Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Bohol. It has been crowned as one of the 7 Wonders of the World and is again vying for the same title this year. The magnificent hills are composed of 1,268 perfectly-shaped cone hills. It is named Chocolate Hills because the green grass that covers it turns to brown during dry season. Proof that it is a major symbol is its existence in the provincial flag. It is currently the 3rd National Geological Monument in the country and is also being proposed to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today, many tourist facilities are built within the view of the hills.
Other tourist attractions in Bohol include the Panglao Island covered with white sand, the Bilar Forest which is a man-made Mahogany forest, the Bohol Beach Club and the Loboc River and the Mg-Aso falls.
These sites prove that Bohol is more than just the home of the Chocolate Hills. Moreover, it is a paradise within a paradise. The numerous beautiful spots in Bohol truly prove that nature has blessed the Philippines with the finest sceneries the world is yet to discover.
